WineExperience - Consorzio del Vino Vernaccia di San Gimignano
The taste, color, history, scent, land. These are some of the secrets that make Vernaccia di San Gimignano unique and surprising. However, there are many other unique details that can only be experienced and discovered in person, during one of the Wine Experiences in the suggestive Rocca di Montestaffoli.
On the tables of popes and kings as early as 1200, Vernaccia di San Gimignano is noble in nature, because it has remained unchanged over the centuries until now. It was mentioned by Dante in the Divine Comedy and loved by Duke Cosimo I from the Medici family and, for these and other reasons, the story of our Queen is one of the most interesting secrets to be discovered in Rocca di Montestaffoli.
730 hectares in the hilly area of Val d'Elsa provide the home for Vernaccia di San Gimignano. A white wine that has a strong link with the city from which it takes its name: San Gimignano, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The medieval village, which is symbolized by the beautiful towers, is one of the most famous Italian tourist destinations and cannot be missed.
As a rule, there are two types of Vernaccia di San Gimignano: the first is the Riserva, made from selected grapes from Vernaccia di San Gimignano that are processed for a long period of time, thus achieving a structured and decisive taste. The second type, instead, is Vernaccia di San Gimignano d'Annata, with a fresher taste that is immediately ready for tasting. Both types can be explored during the Wine Tasting Experience.
Another feature of Vernaccia di San Gimignano is its adaptability to various pairings, also thanks to its two types. In fact, the fresher vintage version can be paired with fish, cheeses and traditional Tuscan dishes. Instead, Vernaccia di San Gimignano Riserva's body allows for more atypical combinations, such as stews and oriental dishes.
One of the most fascinating and interesting secrets of Vernaccia di San Gimignano is its color. In fact, there are many yellow scales and shades that it can take: a vintage glass, for example, is characterized by a straw yellow color, while the Riserva version is a golden and shiny yellow. These nuances can only be fully grasped in person.
Vernaccia di San Gimignano shows its rebellious character, especially in its organoleptic features that differ from the standards of regular white wines. The decisive scent and strong sapidity distinguishes this unique wine. These are all features that can be explored during the Wine Experience tastings.
Unlike many other white wines, Vernaccia di San Gimignano is characterized by its excellent longevity. It is a wine that needs time and should be waited for, as it reveals its best features and true pleasantness only with the passage of time and after it has aged.
